Recallery privacy policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Recallery is a browser extension that adds folders, search, prompts and export to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. It has no account and no analytics, and it never sends what it keeps to a server: your library and your chats stay in your browser. Recallery Pro is bought and activated on the Recallery website, which has its own section below.
What Recallery handles
- Your library. Folders, prompts, chains, bookmarks, tag rules and settings that you create.
- Your chats on the AI sites you switch on. Titles and message text, read so you can search them, bring them into another chat as context and export them.
- Your plan. When your free trial started, how many times today you used @@ context or "Continue in another AI" (Free allows 5 a day), and, if you buy Pro, a signed Pro token.
- Short-lived coordination state. Which tab is currently indexing, pending "jump to this message" requests (kept up to 2 minutes), and text you chose to carry into another AI (kept up to 3 minutes). It is discarded when the browser closes.
Where it is stored
| Data | Location |
|---|---|
| Library and settings | chrome.storage.local (this browser profile) |
| Plan (trial start, today's count, Pro token) | chrome.storage.local; never included in backups |
| Search index of your chats | IndexedDB belonging to the extension |
| PDF exports being printed | Same IndexedDB; deleted when the print page opens them, and pruned after 6 hours |
| Coordination state | chrome.storage.session (memory only) |
| Theme preference (copy) | The extension pages' local storage, so pages open in the right theme |
Whether the dashboard sidebar is collapsed (rc.navCollapsed) | The extension pages' local storage; one flag, never part of the library or a backup |
None of this is synced, uploaded or shared. Chrome deletes all of it when you remove the extension.
What Recallery sends, and to whom
- Only to the AI site you are using, and only from that site's own tab. To list and read your conversations, Recallery calls the same endpoints the site's web app uses, with your existing login. Requests are paced, pause when the site asks, and only one tab per account does the reading.
- ChatGPT's session token. ChatGPT's own API requires it. Recallery reads it from chatgpt.com inside the ChatGPT tab and keeps it in that tab's memory only. It is never stored or sent anywhere else.
- Changes on a site only when you ask. Deleting or archiving chats happens after you choose it and confirm. When you run a chain, Recallery sends its steps (prompts from your own library) to the AI in that tab, one at a time.
- Nothing to anyone else. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party service. Recallery loads no remote code, and it checks your plan on your device without contacting a server. "Continue in another AI" and "@@" context only put text into the message box for you to review. Nothing is sent until you press send yourself.
Recallery Pro
Pro is optional, and everything above applies on every plan.
- Checking your plan. A Pro license is a token signed by Recallery's license server. The extension checks the signature with a public key built into it, on your device. It never contacts a server to do this, and it never reports how you use Recallery.
- Buying. Checkout is run by Polar, the seller of record. Polar collects your email address and payment details under its own privacy policy, and sends you your license key and receipts. Recallery never receives your payment details.
- Activating and refreshing. You do this on the activation page of the Recallery website, which you open yourself: after checkout, or from the Plan page in Recallery. The page sends Recallery's license server one of three things: the checkout ID from Polar, the license key you type in, or the Pro token stored in this browser (to renew a yearly license). The server checks the purchase with Polar and replies with a new Pro token, which the page hands to the extension. Your chats, prompts, folders and settings are never sent.
- What can talk to the extension. Only that activation page. It can ask which plan this browser is on (and get the stored Pro token, to renew it), and hand over a new token. No other website can reach Recallery.
- What the license server keeps. The IDs of refunded licenses with the time of the refund, so that tokens issued before it stop working; the IDs of Polar's payment notifications for 14 days, to skip duplicates; how many Founding Lifetime licenses have sold; and 30 days of server logs, covering failed requests and payment events, with order and license IDs but never license keys or tokens. It keeps no names, email addresses or payment details.
- The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Access to chatgpt.com, claude.ai, gemini.google.com, grok.com | Optional, requested one site at a time when you switch a site on. Without it Recallery can't see that site at all. |
storage, unlimitedStorage | Keep your library and a search index of long chat histories on this device. |
scripting | Start Recallery on the sites you switched on, including tabs that were already open, without reloading them. |
contextMenus | "Save selection as a Recallery prompt" and "Search your AI chats" on selected text. |
Messages from the activation page (externally_connectable) | Lets the Recallery website's activation page hand over a Pro token. No other website can send Recallery messages. |
Your controls
- Switch a site off in the toolbar popup. Recallery stops on that site straight away, including in open tabs.
- Pause indexing, clear the search index (per site or entirely) or reset the library in Settings.
- Download a backup of your library as a JSON file, or restore one.
- Remove Pro from this browser on the Plan page. Your license stays yours, to activate again.
- Manage or cancel a subscription, change your card and download invoices in Polar's customer portal.
- Remove the extension to delete everything it stored.
Changes
If a future version handles data differently, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
